Server Requirements

Web server

The Forms inMotion server is a .NET based web service. This requires one of the following operating systems:

• •  Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later service pack (x64)
  •  Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (x64) 

In addition the following should be installed:

• • IIS 7 or higher
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2
  • SSL Certificate

The minimum recommended hardware is below:

• • 2.4Ghz dual-core processor or virtualized equivalent
  • 4GB RAM
  • 1 Gigabit Ethernet connection

Database server

Forms inMotion also requires a SQL Server database which can be installed on the Web server described above, but is recommended to be its own machine for high volume installs. This is due to the large system resources consumed by the SQL Server database application itself. Currently SQL Server 2012 through Current is supported.

System recommendations for those different operating systems can vary greatly.  We typically use the following as guidelines:

• • 4GB RAM
  • 2.4Ghz dual-core processor or virtualized equivalent. x64 processor is preferred.
  • SQL Server requires a minimum of 6GB disk space.  The Forms inMotion server recommended size is about 50MB / year depending on usage scenario.

Client Machines

The Forms inMotion client is entirely browser based and supports most operating systems including Linux, Microsoft Windows (Chrome and Firefox are preferred browsers) and MacOS (Chrome and Safari are preferred).  

If you are using the Forms inMotion Desktop Connector, you will need to be on a Windows machine with:

• • Windows 7 or greater
  • 2GB or more system RAM
  • 1280x800 or higher monitor/graphics card resolution
  • Firefox or Chrome Browsers with a modern version.  (NOTE: IE is supported but can cause rendering issues with some forms due to their non-standard implementation HTML rendering)
  • Any TWAIN compatible scanner
  • Administrative permission to install an SSL certificate
